Review: Collective Makeup Geek Eyeshadow

So I wanted to write reviews on each of these shadows, but on their own. After testing them out repeatedly, I noticed that my opinion on them is quite the same. So here’s a collective review on the Makeup Geek Shadows: Showtime, Cinderella, Peach Smoothie and Wild West!

20180312_110435Showtime is a foiled eyeshadow, described as a “rusty brown with warm undertones and a foiled finish”. The Makeup Geek website describes their foiled eyeshadows as:

With these rich and intensely-hued shades, the new Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows go beyond your standard line of cosmetics, introducing you to a new and powerful cosmetic experience. This cutting-edge formula offers a creamy texture that is a hybrid between a powder shadow and a cream shadow that is on a level of its own. The intense pigmentation combined with an opaque, metallic finish make these shadows a dream to work with. These can be applied effortlessly in just one swipe with no primer required! Our lineup includes a diverse array of rich colors and a smooth silky formula that we believe help elevate pressed eye shadows to the next level of exceptional quality.

Which I call a big pile of dirt. This shadow is horrible, it’s patchy, it skips part of my eyelid. It has no kick back, however, and is really blendable, but it’s such a patchy shade that it’s just quite unusable.

Next up is Cinderella.

20180312_110649.jpgCinderella is described as a pale shimmery pink. Which it isn’t, well at least, it isn’t shimmery. This shade is really difficult to use, it has barely any pigment and takes for ever to show up on my skin, I’m as pale as mayonaise, let alone someone who has a deeper skin tone than me! The shade is really patchy as well, and isn’t blendable at all. This shade is really disappointing, a waste of time!

Next: Peach Smoothie

Peach Smoothie a soft peachy beige with a matte finish. This one doesn’t show up on my skin either. I mean, they both do while swatching, but when I apply them with a brush they just disappear. It has a LOT of kick back, is very dry and just isn’t pigmented. Again, a huge disappointment.

Wild West is our last shade today! Described as a rich rose brown. To me it is more brown than rose, but that’s just my eyes. This shade is exactly like the others. Bad. Patchy. This one however, is pigmented and blendable, but that doesn’t make up for the patchyness.

Honestly I’m HUGELY disappointed in these shadows. I’m never going to buy any Makeup Geek shadows again, and I honestly don’t understand why they ever got so popular! Take my advice, spend your hard earned cash on some good eyeshadows, not on these.

  1. Ouch, these eye shadows sound like such a huge disappointment! I love eye shadow and thought the first shade looked nice until I read your impressions of it. Thank you for writing such an honest review! I definitely won’t be wasting my money on this eye shadow!

    1. I made the swatches look a bit better than they actually are, because they were so patchy and blotchy when I made them, so I had to redo it about 3 times before it looked nice hehe… But I’m surprised as well! I heard a lot of people talk about them, but I’m not too excited about them now… :’)

      1. Unfortunately, no! You can’t return makeup in Europe after using it, even if you are disappointed. But I don’t mind too much, as I did get it for the blog and I’ve got tons of younger cousins who don’t really care about quality as much as I do 🙂
