Review: Bésame Cosmetics Lipstick in Victory Red

Now, I didn’t write the most positive review when I first tried Bésame Cosmetics lipsticks… But, looking back on it, I think it’s because I just had SUCH high expectations. Unrealistic ones even. So I bought another lipstick, with my expectations lowered, to see if I’m still not too thrilled about it.  How did this one fare?

A highly pigmented and saturated red. Ideal for all skin tones. A semi-matte finish with one coat full coverage. The highest natural pigment content for a smooth, indelible, feather-proof finish. Enriched with squalene, vitamin C and aloe. – Bésame Cosmetics website

This colour is a direct replica from a shade worn in the 1940s. Bésame is known for their vintage products, as this is my aesthetic to the fullest, I am naturally intrigued by them! The packaging is beautiful, can’t deny that, but be warned, you get a lot less from these lipsticks than a usual lipstick, the product is a lot smaller. That doesn’t bother me though, because when do I ever finish a lipstick?

This shade is a beautiful, blue red. What I like about blue based reds is that they make my teeth look a lot better than they actually are! Orange toned reds make my teeth more yellow, and I don’t like that on me personally (though I love orange lipsticks so much!!!). 20180117_155202

It is a bit more difficult to apply, because of the shape of the product. So if you are beginner in lipstick, try a different one first! Or use a brush to apply it, as it does get a bit more difficult. You get instructions with the lipstick, so when you are in need of some help they have you covered! They are really pigmented and opaque, so you need a light hand while applying these!

I really like this shade on me. And I would agree with Bésame, I think this would suit every skin tone. I like this one better than the other one I tried, this one is less dry and applies a bit more smoothly and more easily. I always wear lipstick with a lipliner, I don’t care if the product recommends not using one, I have to use one. My bottom lip is a bit more pronounced what makes it look like I went outside of the lines when I apply lipstick. That’s just not the look I’m going for, and lipliner really does the trick for me!

As this is a lipstick and not a liquid lipstick, this won’t last up to 10 hours, but I get a good solid 6, while eating burgers and going shopping! It feels really comfortable on my lips and doesn’t feel drying at all, which is always a huge plus for me. It wears off really nicely and a LOT better than the Sugarpill lipstick, which is about the same price. I do get transfer on my chin when I eat, but I get that with most creamy lipsticks. It also transfers on to my crooked front tooth, but it only does that once or twice and when I’ve been wearing it for a about an hour, it dries down enough for me to not transfer on my tooth again. The Bésame lipsticks aren’t my favourite, but they are good. They look beautiful on your vanity and they make you feel really glamorous when you apply them. Compared to (again) the Sugarpill lipstick, this one is waaay better, and I would totally recommend the Bésame one.

I’m a lot more positive on this one than I was on the other one. I had realistic expectations for this one, and I was pleasantly surprised! When I get the chance again to buy these in Europe, I will order more, and that should say enough about how much I liked them!
