I apparently really liked the first Nancy Drew mystery, because I ordered, read and finished the second one as well. Now, will I continue with this children’s series?
Nancy resolves to help Helen Corning’s relatives solve the mystery of the ghost haunting their old mansion. A mysterious man appears at the Drew home to warn Nancy that her father, Carson Drew is in danger. This warning prompts a search for the missing Willie Wharton, a land owner, who can prove he signed away his land to the railroad and save the railroad from a lawsuit. Meanwhile, the disappearance of Mr. Drew, thefts and mysterious goings on at Twin Elms, and the discovery of a hidden staircase lead Nancy to solve these baffling mysteries.
This one seemed a bit more interesting than the first one, and it was! It was better written than the first one (not like that was hard because the first one was written HORRIBLY) and we don’t have any weird non consistencies!
I really liked this one a bit better, we don’t have any unnecessary wardrobe changes or mentioning of Nancy’s outfits, praise bless. It is still a massively unrealistic and fun story to read [as IF the police in any time would take an 18 year old girl seriously on her “detective” work].The ghost part was interesting, the setting was interesting but it is very typical; people with deformaties are evil, and people who are beautiful are by definition “good”. Slightly annoying, but nothing you can do about, because this has been the mentality for centuries. Apart from this, there wasn’t anything that really annoyed me, which is a plus, I guess? It’s still badly written, it’s still ridiculous, and it’s still highly enjoyable to read.
I am interested to know how the rest of the series will go, especially because all the books are ghost written. I still recommend the Nancy Drew series for children, and for adults alike!
